Airtel WiFi Calling now available across India; crosses 1 million users

Earlier last month, Airtel rolled out VoWiFi a.k.a Wi-Fi Calling in Delhi and gradually expanded to other cities like Hyderabad, Chennai, and Bangalore.

The company later officially launched the service and made it available in many cities. Now, Airtel has officially announced that its Wi-Fi Calling service is available across India and has crossed 1 million users.

Airtel VoWiFi now works with non-Airtel broadband connection too and supports over 100 devices across 16 brands. The service is now available across India and the brands that support Airtel VoWiFi include Xiaomi, Samsung, OnePlus, Apple, Vivo, TECNO, SPICE, ITEL, Infinix, Mobiistar, CoolPad, Gionee, ASUS, Micromax, Xolo, and Panasonic.

In related news, there is no official support for Jio Wi-Fi Calling on OnePlus smartphones, but you can check out our workaround guide to enable Jio VoWiFi on OnePlus smartphones.

In case you missed, Airtel Wi-Fi Calling leverages cutting edge technology to enhance the indoor voice calling experience for Airtel smartphone customers. The innovative service uses Wi-Fi networks to create a dedicated channel for voice calls and allows customers to make high-quality calls to any network. This dramatically improves customer experience as one can seamlessly switch to Airtel Wi-Fi Calling.

Furthermore, Airtel Wi-Fi Calling is a free service, does not require any app, and can be configured on the smartphone by following the steps mentioned below:

  • Check smartphone compatibility on airtel.in/wifi-calling
  • Upgrade device operating software to the latest version that supports Wi-Fi Calling
  • Go to Settings on your mobile phone and Switch On Wi-Fi Calling
  • Keep VoLTE switched on as well for a seamless experience

Commenting on this, Randeep Sekhon, CTO – Bharti Airtel said:

We are delighted with the extremely positive customer response for Airtel Wi-Fi Calling. The technology has truly transformed the indoor network quality for Airtel mobile customers, particularly in high population density areas in urban markets. Airtel is also the first to make the service LIVE across India and our customers can use the feature on any Wi-Fi.

Facebook won’t be same anymore, Redesigned Desktop Interface, Rolling Out to Few Users, More Widely Available in Spring 2020

Facebook has been working on its redesigned desktop interface for over a year now.

Highlights

  • Facebook’s new design is rolling out to a small number of users
  • Everyone else will get the redesigned Facebook website by April 2020
  • The new website will offer a dark mode as well

In April last year, Facebook revealed its plans for a major redesign coming to the desktop. The fresh design is now reportedly rolling out to a small number of users. Other users will receive the new Facebook redesign by April this year, according to a report. Facebook’s new design was being tested internally earlier, before being rolled out to a small group of users. The social networking giant is calling the redesign ‘The New Facebook’. The new design is supposed to focus on Facebook’s other offerings, apart from the existing Newsfeed-centric design.

Facebook's Redesigned Desktop Interface Rolling Out to Few Users, More Widely Available in Spring 2020: Report

According to a report by Cnet, Facebook has started offering early access to its redesigned desktop website to a small number of users.

The fresh design brings about a number of changes to the user interface with a slight minimalistic appeal. Users can opt-in to ‘The New Facebook’ and go back to the old design any time they want, for now. Facebook has also confirmed to CNET that other Facebook users will receive the redesigned Facebook interface on the desktop by spring 2020.

Facebook is letting users pick from a white or dark background. This is the first time Facebook will offer a dark mode on its website. The company will also ask users for their feedback, and make relevant changes before rolling out the new design to everyone else. Facebook had earlier said that it will release its new desktop experience last year.

The news comes at a time when Facebook is battling misinformation and privacy issues. The social networking giant recently announced its plans to handle deep fake videos, which didn’t quite please US lawmakers. The company has been under fire for quite some time on the way it deals with misinformation on its platform.

Samsung recently unveiled the Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite – a high-powered variant of last year’s Galaxy flagship. Soon after it announcement, online retailer FlipKart has listed the new Samsung phone as “coming soon” with some posters of its key features.

The landing page can be found in the “mobiles” tab within the app and includes a “Notify me” button where customers can sign up for alerts once the S10 Lite becomes available for purchase.

Of course, the retailer hasn’t hinted at possible pricing for the S10 Lite. A new report from Gadgets360, claims that the phone will be listed at closet to INR 40,000 – this is per industry sourced quoted by the IANS. In the past, Samsung’s devices above INR 30,000 have sold well, according to Gadgets360.

Mi Band 5 with 1.2″ AMOLED Display to Come with NFC and Google Pay Support for approx Price of INR 1800

Redmi_Note_8_Sale_Amazon

Xiaomi’s Mi Band line-up of smartbands has been incredibly popular ever since the first Mi Band made its debut in India

Xiaomi has been launching Mi Bands with NFC for a couple years now, the variant that the company launches in India has never had NFC support. That may be about to change with the Mi Band 5.

According to a new report from TizenHelp, Xiaomi’s Mi Band 5 will not only come with support for NFC outside of China, but will also support Google Pay along with other payment methods in the global variant.

Since we’re unable to independently verify this information, it’s best to take this with a pinch of salt, but if the reports are true (and I hope they are), the upcoming Mi Band 5 might be even more popular than its predecessors, including the recently launched Mi Band 3i.

Apart from this, the report also mentions some of the specifications for the upcoming fitness band. It states that the Mi Band 5 will come with a larger, 1.2-inch AMOLED display, and it will be a more contrasty display as well. Moreover, the report says that the device will be lighter than the Mi Band 4, which is definitely cool, but we hope Xiaomi won’t skimp out on the battery to reduce the weight — that larger screen will need more juice to stay powered.

While there’s currently no proper information about when the Mi Band 5 might be launched, reports seem to be pointing at some date in Q2 2020. It’s also expected to carry a price tag of 179 yuan (~Rs. 1800).
