Apple May Launch 6 iPhones in 2020 Including Two ‘Affordable’ Ones

Redmi_Note_8_Sale_Amazon

Apple may be planning to launch a grand total of six iPhone models in 2020, including not one, but two ‘affordable’ ones as successors to the original iPhone SE.

According to Taiwanese publication, Digitimes, which claims that while four of the devices will ship with OLED displays, the two lower-priced ones may only have LCD screens.

The report, which quotes sources within Apple’s supply chain in Taiwan, further claims that while one of the two LCD devices will come with a 5.5-inch screen, the other will have a 6.1-inch panel. Do note that the report is yet to be corroborated by official sources, so it needs to be taken with a pinch of salt for now.

It’s worth noting here that Apple was earlier rumored to launch five iPhone models this year, including at least four with 5G connectivity, as part of its plans to offer its products at different price-segments. The company was also said to be planning a successor to the iPhone SEto address the burgeoning mid-range smartphone market, but the new report now seemingly suggests that there might be two such devices next year.

Recent reports have suggested that Apple might market its iPhone SE successor as iPhone 9, so it will be interesting to see if they will be named iPhone 9 and iPhone 9 Pro. Whatever be the case, Apple is almost certain to launch more iPhone models than ever this year, so it will be interesting to see if it will help the company make inroads into the Indian smartphone market, which remains highly skewed towards Android.

Redmi_Note_8_Sale_Amazon

The RedmiBook 13, which launched alongside the Redmi K30 in December 2019, may be the first Xiaomi laptop heading to the Indian market – KNOW more about the Specs and Price

Realme 5i with Snapdragon 665 for Rs 8,999 only

A trademark listing for RedmiBook brand of laptops has been spotted on the website of Intellectual Property India, an agency for patents and trademarks under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. The listing, tipped to us by a reader, suggests Xiaomi could finally launching its laptops in the Indian market, ending the wait for fans looking for laptops at relatively affordable prices. It should be noted that the RedmiBook brand is part of Xiaomi sub-brand Redmi, which is best known for affordable smartphones in India as well as worldwide.

Back in late 2018, Xiaomi India head and global vice president Manu Kumar Jain had said laptops are among the products the company plans to launch in India. With 2019 done and over with, we may see the RedmiBook series hit the Indian market in 2020. To recall, Xiaomi launched the RedmiBook 14 — the first Redmi-branded laptop — in May this year, with new variants in the same screen size launching in July, August, and October.

The latest model under the series is the RedmiBook 13, which launched alongside the Redmi K30 smartphone in China. The smartphone is widely expected to launch in India in early 2020 — the new trademark is an indication the RedmiBook 13 too may launch in India alongside the Redmi K30.

RedmiBook 13 laptop prices and specifications

The RedmiBook 13 laptop has a 13.3-inch full-HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) resolution with 178-degree viewing angles, 250nits brightness, and 89 percent screen-to-body ratio. It comes with 10th gen Intel Core i5 and i7 processor options, backed by a ‘Hurricane’ cooling arrangement with dual-heat pipes and custom-made wing fan to ensure thermal dissipation as well as quiet operations. The laptop comes with 8GB RAM, 512GB SSD storage, 2GB NVIDIA MX250 graphics card. Xiaomi has also included a cross-platform file transfer system called Smart Connect, along with Xiaomi Sensor Key with remote user authentication (using products such as Mi Band 3), and Mi Cloud service with the laptop.

Other features of the RedmiBook 13 laptop include Windows 10 operating system, Microsoft Office Student Edition, Harman speakers with DTS support, dual-band Wi-Fi support, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, USB 3.1 port x 2, HDMI port x 1, and 3.55mm audio jack. It has a 40Whr battery with 65W adaptor that the company claims can deliver 11 hours of video playback and 8.5 hours of web browsing. The 1C fast-charging support means the laptop can deliver 50 percent charge in 35 minutes, Xiaomi says. RedmiBook 13 measures 307.3 x 195 x 17.8mm in size and weighs 1.23kgs.

As for the price, RedmiBook 13 with 1.6GHz 10th gen Intel Core i5 processor is RMB 4,499 (about Rs 46,000). The higher-end variant with 1.8GHz 10th gen Intel Core i7 processor is RMB 5,199 (roughly Rs 53,500).

Realme 5i with Snapdragon 665 , Quad Camera arriving in ndiai on January 9, Expected Price 8-9k

It is already allegedly on sale in Vietnam for the equivalent of $185 at one online retailer, and today Flipkart revealed it will offer the device in India and will launch it on January 9 at 12:30 PM local time.

Realme 5i will be the latest device in the brand’s portfolio which is expected to be slightly more affordable due to less impressive front-facing camera and design of the back panel.

Redmi_Note_8_Sale_Amazon

If we can trust the Vietnamese online retailer он the Realme 5i specs, the will be very close to the basic Realme 5 – a 5,000 mAh battery, four cameras on the back, lined up vertically in the upper left corner, 6.5” screen with a waterdrop notch and a Qualcomm chipset, likely the Snapdragon 665.

SPECIFICATIONS

  • 6.52″720×1600 pixels
  • 12MP2160p
  • 4GB RAMSnapdragon 665
  • 5000mAhLi-Po

Redmi_Note_8_Sale_Amazon

The new phone is just another attempt by Realme to fill every possible price category, so we expect the 5i to be slightly more affordable than the realme 5 and the realme 5s and to sell for somewhere between INR7,999 ($110/€100) and INR8,999 ($125/€110).

Xiaomi identifies and fixes privacy issue with its Home Security Camera

Yesterday a weird bug surfaced connected to Xiaomi’s Mi Home Security Camera Basic 1080p (yes, that’s the full name of the product).

Redmi_Note_8_Sale_Amazon

Essentially, a user on Reddit was able to see creepy (and grainy) black and white stills that seemed to come from other people’s cameras when requesting the feed of his own through Google Assistant on a Nest Hub smart display. Then Google responded quickly by temporarily disabling integrations with Xiaomi’s Mi Home service on its smart devices.

So it looks like the issue has been identified and fixed, but the root cause is still not “completely solved”. Until that happens, the service has been suspended. Hopefully it will all get fully resolved soon, as people really don’t need even more reasons to find smart home surveillance cameras just a little bit creepy. Or insecure.

Xiaomi has always prioritized our users’ privacy and information security. We are aware there was an issue of receiving stills while connecting Mi Home Security Camera Basic 1080p on Google Home hub. We apologize for the inconvenience this has caused to our users.

Our team has since acted immediately to solve the issue and it is now fixed. Upon investigation, we have found out the issue was caused by a cache update on December 26, 2019, which was designed to improve camera streaming quality. This has only happened in extremely rare conditions. In this case, it happened during the integration between Mi Home Security Camera Basic 1080p and the Google Home Hub with a display screen under poor network conditions.

We have also found 1044 users were with such integrations and only a few with extremely poor network conditions might be affected. This issue will not happen if the camera is linked to the Xiaomi’s Mi Home app.

Xiaomi has communicated and fixed this issue with Google, and has also suspended this service until the root cause has been completely solved, to ensure that such issues will not happen again.

Google Disables Xiaomi’s Nest Integration after User Reports Seeing Strangers’ Images

As creepy as cameras can be, smart and connected cameras are a whole other breed. If all the news about Wyze’s server breach, the lawsuit against Ring cameras, and more wasn’t enough to scare you from using smart cameras, this latest one might just do the trick.

According to a Reddit post from a Xiaomi smart camera user, his Google Nest Hubs showing the camera feed and images from a strangers’ camera. The issue was first reported by Android Police, and Google has since then disabled Xiaomi’s integration with Nest until the issue is fixed.

Redmi_Note_8_Sale_Amazon

The Mountain View giant released a statement about the inadvertent privacy breach that occurred here, saying, “We’re aware of the issue and are in contact with Xiaomi to work on a fix”. The company’s spokesperson also added, “In the meantime, we’re disabling Xiaomi integrations on our devices.”

The user in question here reportedly recently purchased a Xiaomi Mijia 1080p smart camera for his use, but when he tried to stream video from his camera to his Nest Hub, the device started showing still images from a stranger’s house instead. In an email to The Verge, the man said that he saw images of an enclosed porch, a sleeping man in a chair, and a sleeping baby.

While it’s unclear exactly how this happened, considering no one was actively trying to access feed from another camera, it’s good to see Google take quick steps towards fixing the issue.

Infinix pop-up selfie camera smartphone will be priced under Rs 10,000

The upcoming Infinix smartphone with pop-up selfie camera is expected to launch next month

Redmi_Note_8_Sale_Amazon

There have been reports that Infinix will be launching a pop-up selfie camera smartphone in February this year. It has been learned from an industry source, that this upcoming smartphone will be priced below Rs 10,000 in India. Considering that pop-up camera smartphones are more common in a slightly higher price range, this smartphone will have an edge over rivals in design terms. This means the upcoming handset from Infinix will become the most affordable handset in the market to feature a pop-up camera module.

Moreover, the source says Tecno will be launching a pop-up camera phone under Rs 10,000 soon after Infinix. Both Tecno and Infinix are owned by China-based Transsion Holdings Limited, which also owns the Itel brand.

Just last week, a report from The Mobile Indian said that Infinix will be launching a smartphone with a pop-up selfie camera module in February this year. The report also mentioned that this smartphone will be powered by a MediaTek processor. Interestingly, the report mentioned that the brand might even start a new series, which might be initiated with this handset. The handset in question has also been tipped to be marketed for its selfie capabilities.

Infinix S5 Lite

Coming to the brand’s most recent handset, Infinix had launched its S5 Lite in India back in November at Rs 7,999. Just like most Infinix handsets, Infinix S5 Lite attempts to offer some really impressive features at a reasonable price

Infinix S5 Lite packs a rather massive 6.6-inch HD+ display with a punch-hole design, which has been described by the brand as Super Cinema display because of its 20:9 aspect ratio. The smartphone is powered by a 2GHz octa-core MediaTek Helio P22 SoC, paired with 4GB RAM and 64GB built-in storage with a microSD card slot for expansion. On the software side, the S5 Lite runs Android 9.0 Pie with XOS 5.5 Cheetah custom skin on top.

If we talk about cameras, the Infinix S5 Litefeatures a triple rear camera setup, which is headlined by a 16MP primary sensor, assisted by a 2MP depth sensor and a dedicated low-light sensor with quad-LED flash. The phone has a 4,000mAh battery that should keep that handset running through the day.

Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Lite, the highly anticipated watered-down (and cheaper) version of the Galaxy Note 10, has appeared in multiple renders so far and its alleged specifications have surfaced online as well. Now, a set of alleged Galaxy Note 10 Lite live images have been leaked, claiming to give us our first real look at the upcoming phone. The Galaxy Note 10 Lite depicted in the leaked live images is identical to what we’ve already seen in renders, with some familiar design elements such as triple rear cameras, a centrally-positioned hole-punch, and an S Pen stylus to go with it.

The leaked Galaxy Note 10 Lite images come courtesy of TechTalkTV (@Mr_TexhTalkTV), and show the phone in black colour from all angles. The upcoming Galaxy Note 10 series phone can be seen sporting a squarish camera module with three lenses, while a single front camera housed inside a hole-punch is there on the front. The images also depict the S Pen clad in a matching black colour. However, the bezels on the phone – especially the chin – are noticeably thicker compared to those on the Galaxy Note 10.

The Galaxy Note 10 Lite appears to have a glass build with a metallic frame running around the edges. The volume and power button are located on the right side, while the SIM slot is on the left. Surprisingly, there is no dedicated Bixby button on the phone. One of the images reveals the Galaxy Note 10 Lite’s model number – SM-N770F – something we’ve come across in previous leaks as well. Another image depicts the phone’s boot screen, with the name ‘Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Lite’ plastered across the display.

Chinese automobile manufacturer Great Wall Motor is getting ready to launch its electric car Ora R1 in India, this year. This car model is being termed as the cheapest electric vehicle in the world with a price range of $8.6K to $11K (INR 6.2 Lakh to INR 8 Lakh).

Owned by a subsidiary of Great Wall Motor, the car is said to have a maximum range of 351 Km and is being run on a 35KW motor. 351Km range is comparable to other electric cars available in the Indian market, which have an average range of 270 Km with the maximum being Hyundai Kona’s 452 Km/full charge. However, the Hyundai Kona costs about INR 28 Lakh.

Further, the average cost of electric cars in India is around INR 13 Lakh, which is much higher than the average INR 5 Lakh for economical cars run on traditional fuel. The launch of Ora R1 will certainly give Indian consumers an economical electric vehicle option while they battle ambiguity around India’s emission norms and economic slowdown.

In 2019, passenger vehicle manufacturers in India have reported a drop of 14% in yearly sales with Maruti Suzuki making a 2% increase in sales on top of heavy discounts.

High Cost Of EVs In India

Amidst India’s air pollution crisis, the need to shift towards green energy sources has become mandatory. While the Indian government had intensively pushed for electric vehicle adoption through tax cuts and EV-focused subsidies. The higher cost of EVs has been a constant reason for concern among Indian consumers.

One of the major reasons for the high cost of electric vehicles is the current lack of lithium-ion battery manufacturers in the country. At present, Indian auto manufacturers have to import lithium-ion batteries from countries like China, Taiwan and Korea.

However, many foreign and local auto majors have started working on setting up battery manufacturing plants in India. Just yesterday, a joint venture (JV) of Japan’s three tech giants — Suzuki, Toshiba, and Denso — has committed an investment of INR 3,715 Cr to increase the production of lithium-ion batteries at their proposed manufacturing unit in Hansalpur, Gujarat. Also, Mahindra and Tata have formed partnerships to start the production of lithium-ion batteries in India.
