Realme just launched its most premium mid-range smartphone in Indian markets. The Realme X2 packs a ton of flagship-worthy features in a mid-range package and debuts as the company’s most powerful smartphone under 20000 rupees. However, the company’s biggest rival, Xiaomi, has had a smartphone in this category for almost six months now.So, how does the Realme X2 fare against Xiaomi’s K20?

Performance

In terms of performance, there’s very little to separate the two phones. The Realme X2’s Snapdragon 730G SoC is optimised to offer better gaming performance than the standard Snapdragon 730 chipset on the Redmi K20. However, both chipsets are capable of delivering excellent gaming performance.

Design and Display

The most noticeable changes on the phone come in the form of design and display. The Redmi K20 offers maximum screen real estate by incorporating a pop-up selfie camera, while the Realme X2’s waterdrop notch feels a bit outdated. Both phones feature an edgy paint job with Gorilla Glass 5 on the front and back. Additionally, only the Redmi K20 supports HDR content. In terms of colour accuracy and brightness, the Redmi K20 does have the edge over the Realme X2.

Realme X2 Pro vs Redmi K20 Pro vs OnePlus 7T – 10 Point Comparison

Cameras

The Realme X2 gets a quad-camera setup with a 64-megapixel sensor at the helm, while the Redmi K20 offers a triple-camera setup with a 48-megapixel primary Sony sensor. On the front, Realme opts for a 32-megapixel, f/2.0 lens, while Redmi utilises a 20-megapixel, f/2.2 motorised pop-up selfie camera. In terms of the front camera, the X2 does have an edge. Realme also offers a macro lens for getting up close to subjects. The Redmi K20, on the other hand, features a telephoto sensor, which provides better details in zoom and portrait shots.

Battery and Software

Both phones pack a similar battery size, but Realme offers 30W fast-charging support while Redmi is limited to 18W fast-charging. Additionally, Realme also does a better job with the software. ColorOS may not be the cleanest Android skin, but it is miles ahead of MIUI.

Verdict

While the Redmi K20 gets a better design and display than the Realme X2, the latter does have a slight edge in performance. Additionally, the fast-charging support and cleaner software, which is set to improve with the next edition of ColorOS, make the Realme X2 a better overall smartphone than the Redmi K20. When it comes to overall camera performance, we’d also suggest opting for the X2 over the K20.

Realme X50 5G, a direct contender to the Redmi K30 5G, details to be revealed today

The next company expected to join the 5G path is Realme. The phone will be called Realme X50 and should arrive any moment now. We already have some of the phone’s key specs and today the Weibo account of Realme posted a teaser, revealing “the blockbuster is coming tomorrow”.
  • Realme X50 5G launch date is all set to be revealed on December 24.
  • A teaser suggests that Realme X50 5G launch could take place on January 5.
  • Realme X50 5G is rumoured to feature a 6.6-inch display with a 90Hz refresh rate.

Previously that account confirmed the X50 will VOOC 4.0 fast charging that will brings its 4,000 mAh power cell to 70% in just 30 minutes.

While that surely is impressive, it’s worth noting that the company hasn’t revealed the battery capacity.

That said, this enhanced version of VOOC 4.0 will come with intelligent five-chip protection and real-time charge monitoring to balance speed and safety.

Despite the text of the teaser Realme is unlikely to reveal the X50 5G in full; more likely we are going to see either first official renders or the launch date.

It was also confirmed it will sport Snapdragon 765G SoC with an integrated 5G modem and will support simultaneous 5G and Wi-Fi connections.

Realme X50 5G could sport a quad rear camera setup, which includes a 60-megapixel primary camera with Sony IMX686 sensor, an 8-megapixel wide-angle shooter, and two 2-megapixel shooters (one for macro and one for portraits). Realme X50 is likely to have dual selfie shooters. It may include a 32-megapixel main shooter and an 8-megapixel wide-angle shooter.

We are eager to see the price range, but that’s likely not happening until the official announcement. Still, the Realme X50 will be a direct contender to the Redmi K30 5G that starts from CNY1,999 ($285/€255) i.e. Rs 20, 300.

Instagram will now let you upload multiple photos on one Story with Layout

Now that Instagram has incorporated this Layout tool into the app, users will no longer use apps from other companies for this solution.

Instagram has added a new feature to its Stories which will let you post multiple photos on one screen. Called ‘Layout’, this feature lets you incorporate up to six photos in one post and is launching globally today. You will already be able to spot it on your app.

It is a simple feature, so to speak, but it will mean quite a bit for Instagram and its users since right now people are resorting to third-party story-editing apps to get a feature similar to this one.

On Instagram, the only way to post multiple photos in one Story post was to copy a photo from the gallery and paste it in the text box. Or you might have been making a single picture with multiple ones, like a grid, saving it and then posting it as a story.

Now that Instagram has incorporated this Layout tool into the app, users will no longer use apps from other companies for this solution. This is much like Instagram’s Boomerang feature thant made gif-creating apps useless.

Instagram has been working on new features for Stories especially with its new ‘Create’ mode. The Create mode allows people to make content that is just not photos. Then there are the type mode templates with conversation prompts, throwback posts etc.

The ‘Create’ mode on Instagram was launched in October this year, while it does seem like it is offering too much already, clearly, Instagram has no problems in adding some more perks to it.

Redmi 9 with MediaTek Helio G70 chipset to launch early next year

The MediaTek Helio G70 will likely be positioned below Helio G90 series and aimed at 2020 budget smartphones

The Redmi 9 launch is not too far away. The successor to Redmi 8 series smartphones will break cover early next year, as industry sources claimIt’s been told the Redmi 9 will be powered by MediaTek Helio G70 SoC and sport a 6.6-inch Dot notch display. It will at least in 4GB RAM and 64GB storage configuration, though there are likely to be more variants in the works. The Helio G70 SoC seems to be an upcoming chipset in MediaTek’s Helio G series, which was launched earlier this year. It seems the Helio G70 will be positioned below the G90 and G90T chips and aimed at 2020 budget offerings.

While the exact Redmi 9 launch date is not clear, the handset is likely to go official in Q1 in China, quickly followed by a release in India. The handset will have a slightly bigger form factor compared to its predecessor, which ships with 6.22-inch HD+ Dot notch display. as mentioned above, apart from the 4GB RAM + 64GB configuration, other Redmi 9 variants could be on the cards too.

Given the naming / numbering scheme we assume it’s slotted below the G90 in terms of performance, and aimed at more affordable offerings. The Redmi Note 8 Pro uses the G90T, while the Redmi 8 goes with a Snapdragon 439.

It shouldn’t surprise anyone if the Redmi 9 launches with MIUI 11 on board, based on Android 10. And perhaps some slight camera improvements are going to be in too, but so far those details haven’t been outed. Stay tuned, though, for if the next generation affordable Redmi is indeed coming so soon, then we’ll start hearing a lot more about it in the very near future.

New WhatsApp bug crashes group chats, deletes chat history forever

WhatsApp is one of the most widely used chat apps but this popularity does not save the platform from bugs and other privacy-related issues that are common these days especially on the Android platform.

WhatsApp is one of the most widely used chat apps but this popularity does not save the platform from bugs and other privacy-related issues that are common these days especially on the Android platform. The cybersecurity researchers at Check Point have spotted a vulnerability in the app which can cause the app to crash on multiple phones in a shared group.

The researchers found that this vulnerability could lead to app crash in loop forcing users to reinstall the app but losing the chat history forever. WhatsApp allows a maximum of 256 members in a group chat so sliding in amidst such a large number of group members won’t be a very tough task. The vulnerability that has been fixed by the chat company now could have been exploited by the malicious hackers through the use of WhatsApp Web and a debugging tool like Chrome’s DevTools to gain access to a specific message parameter and lead to crashing of the app in the loop.

In WhatsApp there are many important groups with valuable content. If an attacker uses this technique and crashes one of these groups all chat history will be gone and further communication would be impossible. The impact of this vulnerability is potentially tremendous, since WhatsApp is the main communication service for many people. Thus, the bug compromises the availability of the app which is a crucial for our daily activities. In order to recover from the issue, the users have to uninstall WhatsApp, install it again and remove the group which contains the malicious payload,” said the security researchers in the report.

The bug has now been fixed. The company issued a fix to resolve the issue, which is available since WhatsApp version number 2.19.58.

“Because WhatsApp is one of the world’s leading communication channels for consumers, businesses and government agencies, the ability to stop people using WhatsApp and delete valuable information from group chats is a powerful weapon for bad actors,” said Oded Vanunu, Check Point’s Head of Product Vulnerability Research.

“All WhatsApp users should update to the latest version of the app to protect themselves against this possible attack,” Vanunu added.

On an average, 65 billion messages are sent on WhatsApp per day by over 1.5 Billion users globally.

JioFiber Data Vouchers Start at Rs 101 and Offer Up to a Whopping 2000GB Benefit

Reliance Jio is offering a total of six Data Vouchers to the paid JioFiber users and the vouchers in question are Rs 101, Rs 251, Rs 501, Rs 1,001, Rs 2,001 and Rs 4,001

Reliance Jio is currently in the process of migrating its Preview users to paid plans. At the same time, the Internet Service Provider (ISP) is coming up with all the solutions required for a commercial broadband operator. Reliance JioFiber is now offering ‘Data Vouchers’ to the customers and they start at just Rs 101. Basically, Data Vouchers can also be referred as data top-ups which users can make full use of when their data limit for the current month exhaust. Similar to its telecom Data Vouchers, the JioFiber vouchers also start at Rs 101 and they go all the way up to Rs 4,001, providing a whopping 2000GB or 2TB extra data benefit to the customers. The validity of these data vouchers will be equal to the JioFiber plan validity of the customer. JioFiber paid customers can recharge these data vouchers by heading over to My Jio app or the company’s website after logging into the JioFiber account.

JioFiber Data Vouchers Detailed: Rs 101 Starting Price and More

Aforesaid, Reliance Jio is offering a total of six Data Vouchers to the paid JioFiber users. The six vouchers in question are Rs 101, Rs 251, Rs 501, Rs 1,001, Rs 2,001 and Rs 4,001. As for the benefits, the Rs 101 Data Vouchers offers 20GB data benefit, Rs 251 voucher comes with 55GB data and the Rs 501 voucher ships with 125GB data benefit.

The Rs 1,001 JioFiber Data Voucher offers a user 275GB data, followed by the Rs 2,001 and Rs 4,001 vouchers with 650GB and 2000GB (2TB) data benefit, respectively. The validity of these data vouchers is equal to the validity of the existing plan.

For example, if you are on a Rs 699 JioFiber plan which expires on December 24, 2019, and if you recharge any of the data vouchers mentioned above, then the validity of the data voucher will also be till December 24. Even if you perform the Rs 4,001 data voucher recharge, it will expire on December 24 itself. Sadly, JioFiber is not offering any data carry forward feature to the users at the moment like Spectra, You Broadband and other local ISPs.

JioFiber Data Vouchers Come in Handy for Basic Plan Users

Reliance Jio was unable to make a mark in the broadband industry because of the sub-par plans. All the JioFiber plans have a FUP limit, especially the plans priced below Rs 1,000 have a FUP limit which doesn’t inspire confidence at all. The Rs 699 JioFiber Bronze plan comes with 100 Mbps speeds and just 150GB of FUP limit, post which the speeds will be reduced. This is something annoying a lot of users from opting JioFiber.

The newly launched JioFiber Data Vouchers will come in really handy for the basic JioFiber plan users. The Rs 501 voucher offers 125GB of data benefit, which is almost equal to the monthly data benefit provided by the Rs 699 JioFiber plan.

ACT Fibernet Also Providing Data Top-Ups to the Users

Another ISP which is currently providing top-up data vouchers to the customers is ACT Fibernet. FlexyBytes+ is what ACT Fibernet calling its data vouchers. The company currently has five of them priced at Rs Rs 225, Rs 400, Rs 600, Rs 1,250 and Rs 2,500, providing up to 500GB data. In contrast, JioFiber data voucher of Rs 2,001 comes with 650GB data, so clear Jio has the upper hand in this regard when compared to ACT Fibernet.

However, the validity of FlexyBytes+ is three months from the date of recharge after which the remaining data balance will lapse, unlike JioFiber, which is providing just validity of the primary plan.
