This YouTuber Opened 6000 Chrome Tabs On The Mac Pro

Apple’s Mac Pro is one of the most powerful machines that is available in the market. The highest tier version coming with 28-cores and 1.5 TB of RAM is just insane.

Apple’s Mac Pro is one of the most powerful machines that is available in the market. The highest tier version coming with 28-cores and 1.5 TB of RAM is just insane.

Tech enthusiast and YouTuber, Jonathan Morrison, tested out the Mac Pro in several ways to check out the full power of the machine. He created a full pro-res 16K video file and ran a Multi-Cam view on Final Cut Pro, playing 16 videos simultaneously. After this, he ran a test with two renowned music producers creating a song in Logic Pro X using hundreds of tracks and plugins.

The Mac Pro did not break a sweat carrying on with these projects. However, recently Jonathan found a way to finally max-out the machine…and his weapon of choice? Google Chrome!

On January 7, the YouTuber tweeted a post showing that Google Chrome is using a whopping 75GB of RAM. That is when he decided to carry out another mind-bending test to max out the Mac Pro. The test? Opening 6000 Google Chrome tabs of legit websites, simultaneously!

Now, opening 6000 tabs of working websites one by one would take a hell lot of time, obviously, and the YouTuber did not want to open blank tabs. Hence, Jonathan made a script using the “Automator” and made a list of 50 legit websites. First, he copy-pasted this list 20 times to create 1000 tabs. Then he went on to increase the number gradually. When he reached 5000 tabs, the CPU cores were spiking across the board, but the RAM usage was 200-300GB. Then he decided to run the process for another 1000 tabs, and this is when things got sticky. Upon reaching 6000 tabs, the machine was using 1,440GB (1.44TB) of RAM out of 1.5TB, and rapidly increasing.

Mac Pro

Up until this point, Chrome was usable. It means, he was able to switch the tabs. But after the 6000-mark, the “Activity Monitor” of the Mac showed that the system was using 1.49TB of RAM and there was one Chrome tab that was not responding (unsurprisingly). So to make Chrome usable again, he tried to “Force Quit” the unresponsive tab. That made the whole application crash and gave 1.49TB of memory back to the machine.

No matter how insane his test was, it was still unable to crash the whole machine. However, no application has been able to use the full RAM of the Mac Pro until Google Chrome. Not that an average user (or even a professional user) will work with 6000 Chrome tabs, this test was performed just for the curious minds.

OPPO Reno3 Pro will launch in India on March 2; key specs leaked

The OPPO Reno3 Pro will soon launch in India and if you have been following the news, you already know it is different from the Reno3 Pro 5G sold in China.

According to the promo page on Flipkart, the Reno3 Pro will be launched in India on the 2nd of March, 2020. The poster on the page show’s Indian Actor, Ranbir Kapoor, holding a gradient blue version of the phone. The actor is one of the Chinese smartphone manufacturer’s brand ambassadors.

The poster also has the logo of the International Cricket Council. OPPO is the official mobile phone partner of the ICC. The partnership was renewed last year for another four years after the first one that ran from 2015 to 2019.

The Reno3 Pro heading to the South-Asian country will have dual front-facing cameras housed inside a pill-shaped notch. After weeks of waiting, the phone has a release date.

The Reno3 Pro will be the world’s first phone with a 44MP dual front-facing camera when it launches next month. The second front-facing camera is expected to work together with the primary camera for better portrait images.

Ahead of the launch, key specs of the phone have leaked thanks to photos of dummy units that were taken in a retail store and posted on the web. According to one of the photos, the Reno3 Pro will have a 64MP quad-camera setup on the back with up to 20x zoom. It will have 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, and also have support for 30W VOOC Flash Charge 4.0.

The second image shows the back of the device and we can see the Reno3 Pro will be available in black as well as pearl white color variants.

The processor is still unknown but there are speculations it will be powered by the Snapdragon 730G rather than the Snapdragon 765G that’s inside the Chinese version.

There are still a lot of unknown features of the device but they most likely will become public knowledge before the March 2 launch date. OPPO is also expected to announce its Enco Free Wireless Earbuds at the launch event. The earbuds already launched in some other markets but are not sold in India yet.

The Japanese government gave 2,000 iPhones to passengers stuck on a cruise ship where nearly 200 coronavirus cases have been confirmed

The Japanese government gave 2,000 iPhones to passengers stuck aboard a Diamond Princess cruise ship where nearly 200 coronavirus cases have been confirmed,

  • The phones were reportedly given out so passengers could download an app on which they can request medication and talk with doctors.
  • Without the phones, people may not have been able to download the app if their devices were registered to app stores of countries other than Japan.
princess diamond cruise ship coronavirus

The Japanese government has found a novel way to use technology as it works to combat the coronavirus outbreak, which has spread to its own backyard.

Off the coast of Japan, more than 3,500 passengers and crew members have been quarantined for more than a week aboard a Princess Cruises ship where at least 170 cases of coronavirus have been confirmed.

The two-week cruise was supposed to end 10 days ago, but since Japanese health officials found several cases of the virus when the boat pulled into port, everyone has been on lockdown on their new floating home. Passengers have gotten restless, tweeting mixed reviews of the room-service food and trying to alert local media about the lack of medicine on board.

On Friday, they received a tiny bit of good news in the form of 2,000 iPhones, or one per cabin, courtesy of the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labor, and Welfare and the Japanese telecom company SoftBank, according to 9to5Mac and an earlier report by Macotakara.

The phones were distributed with a predownloaded app that allows people to request medication, arrange consultations with doctors, and receive information from health officials, according to 9to5Mac.

The SoftBank-serviced iPhones were needed because people may not have been able to download the app if their own devices were registered to app stores of countries other than Japan.

Realme 6 series of smartphones may launch as early as February, at price to start around Rs 10,000”

The Realme 6 series of smartphones may launch as early as February, with price tipped to start at roughly Rs 10,000

Rumours around the Realme 6 series have been swirling around the internet since November last year, giving us a few details around the smartphone. Now, a new Wi-Fi Alliance listing has revealed some of the key Realme 6 specifications. These include the MediaTek Helio G90 processor, Android 10, and dual-band Wi-Fi support. There has been no official word regarding the Realme 6 India launch yet, but we can expect the series to go official soon since the company has already picked up the BIS certification for the handset.

Realme 6 specifications

According to the Wi-Fi Alliance listing, the Realme RMX2001 smartphone – which had been previously confirmed as the Realme 6 – will be powered by the MediaTek MT6785T chipset. This chipset’s marketing name is MediaTek Helio G90 – it should be noted that this SoC is different from the Helio G90T that powers the Redmi Note 8 Pro. In fact, Realme 6 might just become the world’s first smartphone with this chipset as no smartphone yet carries the chipset.

Realme 6 specifications will include the MediaTek Helio G90 SoC, Android 10, and dual-band Wi-Fi, as per the Wi-Fi Alliance listing

Other than the processor, the Realme 6 specifications mentioned in the listing include Android 10 and support for 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi bands. While the latter is par for the course on affordable smartphones, Android 10 should be overlaid with Realme UI (first impressions).

Realme 6 price, launch timeline, and design

Realme 6 with model number RMX2001 has been certified by BIS in India and IMDA in Singapore in the past; the latter had confirmed the name of the smartphone. A leaked live image of the smartphone showed it will feature a rather huge, centre-aligned hole-punch to accommodate the selfie camera. The image also showed the thickness of the bezels around the display and dual-SIM support, but not much else.

The tipster also claimed the Realme 6 price will be around RMB 1,000, which translates to roughly Rs 10,000. This is not a surprise since the Realme 5 price also started at Rs 9,999 at the time of launch.

As for when the Realme 6 will launch, the IMDA, BIS, and Wi-Fi Alliance certifications suggest the launch may not be too far. In fact, Realme India CEO Madhav Sheth has previously confirmed the brand will launch its first fitness band in the country in February, so we may see the event be headlined by the Realme 6 series alongside a smartwatch. Of course, we’re already nearly halfway into February and the company has made no indications of hosting a launch event, so the unveiling may be pushed to March instead. To recall, the Realme 3 series was unveiled by the company in March last year, so the time also fits.Realme 6 Price, Launch Date
